Its been a while since we have posted to our blog. It seems time has flown as well as our book intake. There are several new Friends who have joined the Friends group. We will post later.
There are a lot of used books added to our book sale shelves. Stop by and browse and take a few, the prices are real reasonable. Mary and Friends group.

We aree almost coming to the end of the year. We are constantly receiving your generous donations. If you love to handle books, become a Friend and learn of advvanced sales and see books before the public.
We have one more meeting, Nov 18 before our final annual meeting on Dec 5th.

We are moving right alone with more books every day.
All you people out there, come to the Ontario City Library and see our good used book sale area and purchase one or a bag full. All our money us used to reinforce some to the programs for the Library. We are having a Fall Book Sale on September 12th. Come by and grab a bag and fill it up. Friends

It's 2009 already. Where has time gone?
We have had our new elections and all our officers are so dedicated they have decided to go another year. We have a faithful President Susie. Shes been a devoted member for a long time. When she is not volunteering, she puts in her time at a local hospital. So she is need at two wonderful places. Then our second in command Alice volunteers at her church. She is always the one who keeps us in line by making sure each items on the agenda are exactly right. Our everloving Secretary, Jean, knows exactly how to tell you exactly what happened at the last meeting, in case you forgot. Her minutes are so accurate, it seems like you know everythibg that happened. And then our Membership ladies, Patty and Carol keeps our membership uip to date. They make sure we are paid up to date. We are also fortunate to have our liasion between Friends and the Library, Gloria. She lets us know what and how we can use our funds to fully benefit each department in the Library. Our treasurer, Maary puts her best forward and keep the money flowing in all the right places.

June Meeting

Hi Friends,
We had our June meeting. The attendance was down, but a lot was accomplished.
We are in the process of purchasing books for our Library from a donation received from Nite Owls Quilting Guild.

Our President, Susie, purchased a new coffee pot for use by us and the Library when needed.

Jean V and Mary S attended the 6th annual meeting of Friends in Fontana on June 25th. There were about 30 Friends group there. A nice informative meeting.

The Summer Reading Program is coming up on Aug. 2nd. So come out and enjoy the hotdogs and sodas and help with the program that helps the Childrens Dept at the Library.

Gloria F attended the American Library Association Annual Conference in Anaheim. I'm sure she has lots of good info to share.

It was approved to add $250. for Adult Beading Program and to budget up to $750. for 2 workstations for the Branch Library.

The next scheduled Friends meeting at the main Library Meeting Room will be July 16th. See you there, Mary

April Meeting

Hi Friends,
Our April meeting went well. We had 2 visiting members, Bunny Skaggs and the Nelson family. We discussed the upcoming Summer Reading Program. We will selling hotdogs and sodas. We are also will be purchasing a new coffee pot for the library. The National Library Week membership drive went well with about 15 new members. Also, discussed was the purchase of flash drives which will be for sale at the Library for only $10.00. And recipies are needed for the cookbook that the Library will have published.
I have asked one of our Librarian to look into purchasing some books from the donation that the Nite Owl Quilters Guild so generous donated.
The Minutes and Treasurer reports were accepted.

Hi friends,
Our final meeting for 2007 will be a brunch on Dec 8, from 9-12. If you have not paid your dues, you can pay them then. We will vote on the officers for next year. Don't forget to check out our book sales, we get new (gently used) books daily.

Friends of Ontario City Library
We are a non-profit organization assisting the Ontario City Library by donating their time and money generated from book sales

Who are the Friends of the Library?
The Friends of the Library are local residents or business members of the community who value public library service. They volunteer their time and talent to promote the use of the library, to assist the library staff and to raise funds to enhance the library services.

The Friends are a non-profit organization that started in 1973 and over the years has supported the Ontario City Library in a variety of ways. The Friends have donated books, audio/visual cleaning equipement and archival preservation and storage equipement. They have also
supported the Summer Reading Programs for children and young adults.

What is the Friends Mission?
The Friends mission is to support the Ontario City Library by:
Fostering a closer relationship between the Library and the citizens of Ontario and its environs, and increasing support, both public and private.
Serving as an advocacy organization for the Library in the community and with elected officials.
Increasing awareness of the Library; sponsoring cultural and related programs for the community; and sponsoring volunteer service for the Library.
Acquiring donations and rasing funds to supplement the library's budget for special materials, programs, equipment, and services not funded through the regular library budget.
Supporting the democratic ideals of the freedom to read and free access to materials and information as outlined in the American Library Associations' Library Bill of Rights.

What We Do
The Friends generate and maintain a book sale area in the Library comprised of donated and withdrawn library materials for sale to the public. The Friends use the money earned from the sales to help pay for Library programs, sponsor special Library events and purchase
equipment and other items needed by the Library.

Meetings and Board Members
The board is comprised of a President, Vice-President, Secretary, Treasurer and chairs of various standing commitees. The Friends' Board of Directors holds a business meeting regularly, usually on the third Wednesday of each month at 3-5p.m. at the Main Library. These meetings are open to all, and the public is welcome to attend. An annual meetins is held in December each year. This is the time when Board members and chairs of the committees are voted on and approved by the general membership.

How to Donate
Donations of money, used or new books, videos, compact discs and the like are welcomed at all times. To donate funds, please contact the Friends. To donate used or new materials, bring your donations to the Main Library at 215 East "C" Street or the Colony Branch Library
at 3850 East Riverside Drive and drop them off. A receipt for your donation is available upon request. All donations to the Friends of Ontario City Library are tax-deductible to the extent allowed by law.
